Mt. Stanhope Estate
Your Subtitle text

In the beginning there was Alexander Ward

The year was 1878, and Alexander Ward bought the estate from the crown of England.  Alexander Ward a British national from Kensington in Middlesex.  The estate was then served by four roads and featured an internal network of roads, as well as four buildings of which one served as the Great House.  The three access points included the Mt. Stanhope Road, the Belair Road, the Befontaine Road and the Stanton Grove Road.  Over time in the hands of the various owners after Alexander Ward, the acquisitions resulted in the estate boundaries reaching into the parishes of St. Andrew’s and St. Patrick’s.

All four access roads of the estate were functional during the revolution.  After the revolution with successive governments not having agriculture as a focal point saw the decline of all four roads.  Today only one road is passible.

About Mt. Stanhope

The estate started as a 300 acre lot of land in 1878. Over time the owners have bought out Stanton Grove Estate and incorporated it into Mt. Stanhope.  The previous owners have also bought out part of Belfontaine Estate and Bicetre Estate and incorporated all into the estate as it is known today.
