The inconvenient reality of global warming is that it affects developing countries most severely and Grenada can attest to that with the recent passage of Hurricanes Ivan (2004) and Emily (2005); the first of its kind to hit the island in about fifty years.  Hurricane Ivan was a Category 4 hurricane when it hit the island. Much of the protective tree cover as well as the productive tree crops on the island have been destroyed.


The aim of the Caribbean Legacy program at Mt. Stanhope Estate, is to allow the tourist to have a lasting impact on the lives of the Grenadian people. Within the program visitors to the estate can replant both protective and productive trees. 


For every productive tree planted, you have guaranteed the future generations employment and for every protective tree planted you have guaranteed the purity and continuity of the water supply on the island.
